The Inaugural Tinpot Sprint Triathlon 2016 Launch

Having just tried to sign up for the Tenby Long Course Weekend after much faffing, and finding I have missed out on a spot as they're full, I thought what better time to announce The Inaugural Tinpot Sprint Triathlon.

As January is now over, hopefully you've blown all those winter cobwebs off your kit and got the negative effects of a jolly good festive knees up out of your system. As you've definitely done this, then I'm sure you're ready for THE INAUGURAL TINPOT SPRINT TRIATHLON CHALLENGE

More after the jump.

Where? Where ever you are, Indoor or Outdoor
When? Between 1st February and 29th of February
How far? 750-meter (0.47-mile) swim, 20-kilometer (12-mile) bike, 5-kilometer (3.1-mile) run

I'd like to challenge all our readers to the Tinpot Sprint Triathlon this February. Its not organised, and it really just a challenge for you. Be safe doing it. I wouldn't recommend outside swimming if you're in the Northern Hemisphere but you're adults and responsible for yourselves.

Rules of Engagement
1. You have to do the 3 disciplines in order, one after another.
2. Transition is a flat 3 minutes, for T1 and T2, so a total of 6 minutes.
3. You can do them indoor or outdoor, on static bikes, treadmills or on road if you want.
4. Don't cheat
5. Have fun
6. We bear no responsibility for anything.

Why the transition rule? Most places won't be set up for transitions, and we don't want people hareing out of the local swimming baths into the gym, dripping all over the place or going out of the pool into the real world. Basically we don't want you do yourself an injury or annoying any folk.

I fully expect to be embarassed by my times, as the post Christmas gut is still hanging, very literally, around.

As a baseling I'm useing Peter Riegel’s formula of : t2 = t1 * (d2 / d1)^1.06, to calculate the required times for the sprint distance to be comparable to Ironman. They are:

Swim: 24 Minutes 24 Seconds
Bike: 46 Minutes 45 Seconds
Run: 40 minutes 36 Seconds

And those times would be taking you to the wire on Ironman Race Day. So there is the gauntlet. Let us know your times in the comments section or using the hashtag #tinpotsprint and we may even do a leaderboard as the month goes on.
