About Us

Dan "Rocky" Evans  and Rhys "Primark Godzilla" Howell first met at University Wales College Newport back in 2003, whilst studying for a BA in Primary Studies with QTS. After adventures includinginventing cone olympics, negotiating with wolf hostagetakers, adopting a cat called buttface and many a night in the Drover's Arms, Rhys dropped out of the course and our fearless duo's stories headed in different directions.

Dan went on to , well let me pass over to him to tell you. Over to you, Dan.

Well, Dan stayed on the course and in 2006 finally managed to get a degree at the third time of trying (three different courses at three different Universities, good times!) After this, Dan moved to Rhys' home city of Gloucester with his girlfriend Lucie where they both embarked on their first teaching posts. As the years passed, Dan and Lucie settled comfortably into life in Gloucester, making many new friends, sharing the Gloucester folk's passion for rugby and sampling the many golf courses it has to offer (not so much Lucie on that last one). In 2007, they bought their first house and in 2010 their first son, Madoc Richard Fenton Evans, was born on May 3rd. New years eve 2011, Dan finally proposed to Lucie and on June 1st 2013 they married. (Lucie has also started a blog from the point of view of a wife/friend. You can find the link in "Ironman Links") April 19th, 2014 Dan and Lucie had their second son, Ioan Huw Llewelyn Evans. The Evans family continue to live and teach in Gloucester.

Whereas Rhys headed North to Bradford to study Politics. After many other adventures including hypothermia in Norway, dabbling with frisbee and many a night in The Courtyard Bar, Rhys graduated and headed to Sheffield. After working in the Library service and completing a MA in Film Studies, Rhys now spends the days organising support for disabled students at Universities. He lives alone but is thinking of getting a cat.

Staying in touch, and often playing Wii Golf on Rhys's returns to Gloucester, the duo conspired to get fit, albeit halfheartedly. Until one night, whilst at the pub where all best ideas begin, they agreed to complete the Ironman before they were 40. Once the enormity of this hit them and they realised they needed more pressure they moved it to before Rhys is 35. So we have a deadline of 28th May 2017. Cripes thats not long.
